CASTELLANZA – “The mother of idiots is always pregnant.” This is the disheartened comment of those who pass by (or live or work) in the area between Via Moncucco and Via Cesare Battisti between Busto and Castellanza. And just one look is enough to understand why.
Weeds and garbage
Weeds and brambles dominate, growing undisturbed “without any proper maintenance and offering a decidedly low decorum spectacle for the city,” hiding among other things bags of garbage, bottles, and other waste abandoned by the uncivilized. The situation is not better with the trash bins, which are indeed full, but because someone puts their garbage inside and outside them. The public trash bins are reserved for small waste: a can drunk on the street, a cigarette butt, a tissue, certainly not the entire garbage bin from home.
Neglect and incivility
Against the degradation, there are those who accuse everyone: the institutions that should take care of mowing the green areas (which today appear dry and yellowed due to scorching temperatures) and the uncivilized people who throw garbage everywhere except where they should. However, there is a door-to-door collection service, which is definitely more convenient and not at risk of possible fines, and there are ecological areas for bulkier waste. The choice to risk sanctions and complaints will always remain a mystery.
