BUSTO ARSIZIO – Piazza San Giovanni and via Milano are in the dark: the streetlights of the “living room” of the historic center of Busto Arsizio have been off for days and frustration is mounting. “It’s now the fourth evening that the same problem is happening,” say the residents of the center (it’s September 1st). But on Friday evening, when people flock to the streets and squares of the center for an aperitif, a walk, or a drink, the case exploded in protests, with the bars in the center particularly incredulous and dismayed by the repeated discomfort created in the city’s “living room”.

The protest

The main square of Busto, partly occupied by outdoor tables, is illuminated only by the internal lights of the premises, with the Basilica of San Giovanni completely in the dark, as well as via Milano with its “vasche”. “It’s shameful,” attacks former councilor Livio Pinciroli, a frequent visitor to the historic center and a year ago already the protagonist of controversy over the replacement of the historic streetlights designed by Richino Castiglioni. “After four days of malfunction, it’s no longer acceptable, and the bars in the square rightly complain. Such a situation is not worthy of a city like Busto Arsizio.”

Previous incidents

This is not the first time it has happened: last October the streetlights remained off in a large part of the pedestrian island of the historic center, including the two squares of San Giovanni and Santa Maria. At that time, it was a technical issue related to the need to fix the public lighting systems, which had remained on even during the day for several days. But since the change in management, there have been recurring malfunctions in public lighting that occur in different areas. Now we are still waiting for answers and solutions from the operator A2A.
