Falsely posing as tourists, but in reality they were pickpockets, ready to strike unsuspecting citizens during their lunch break. Thus, two women and one man were arrested yesterday afternoon by the Milan Police. The officers of the 6th Section “Contrasto al Crimine Diffuso” of the Mobile Squad, during a crime prevention operation, on Friday afternoon around 2 pm, noticed two women – who were later found to have a criminal record and were both subject to an Order from the Police Chief to leave the country – and a man who, acting suspiciously, pretending to be tourists, observed the bags and personal effects of unsuspecting citizens enjoying their meals on via Hoepli, with the clear intention of taking advantage of the favorable circumstances to steal the customers’ belongings.

Arriving on via Monte Napoleone near a historic bar in the fashion district, the 29-year-old Peruvian woman stayed outside as a lookout, while the 31-year-old pregnant Cuban woman, six months along, and her 34-year-old compatriot entered and approached the table occupied by a 66-year-old Japanese tourist. The 31-year-old, covered by her accomplice, approached her jacket to the backrest of the chair where the tourist was sitting and took his bag, which was placed there. The police immediately intervened and arrested the three, returning to the Japanese customer the bag containing cash and identity documents.
