CERIANO LAGHETTO – “Terra e poesia” is the work of Gabriel David Fekete, an Italian sculptor of Hungarian origin, coming from a family of sculptors for generations. The monument collects and tells the history and traditions of the territory of the Parco delle Groane. A particular focus is directed towards the soil of this territory, called “ferretto”: it is a hard and uncultivable soil, but excellent, as it is clayey, for the production of bricks and tiles. Since the mid-18th century, the area becomes a land of kilns, reaching 22 specimens, many of which are still recognizable today for their tall chimneys, many have disappeared, others are ruins and others are recovered, testimonies of the industrial archaeology that characterized the entire area. In Fekete’s work, the Hoffmann kiln model is remembered, particular for its continuous operation that allowed a much larger production of bricks, made of stainless steel. The figurative elements that transmit the cultural memory of the place animate the narrative, that is the figures that work the land: in the bas-relief a male figure, bare-chested, with his head bowed intent on extracting the soil, while the female figure in the round represents the moment of loading and unloading, of movement that naturally occurred by hand. An element that underlines the family management of many kilns, in which all family members, naturally including women, have always taken part in the work for the production of bricks. The base is made with the original bricks from the area, dated, still rigorously handmade, which have been kindly donated by Fornace Fusari.
