BUSTO ARSIZIO – “Indecent, cowardly, and fascist banner. The mayor had asked him to stop seeing fascism where there is none, but Pedotti saw it well.” This is supported by the Antifascist Committee of Busto Arsizio, regarding the sheet hung yesterday morning, February 8, on the footbridges of the Cinque Ponti. “Another provocation, even if this time not signed – according to the ‘Antifa’ – no denialist position has been expressed by councilor Pedotti and even less by ANPI. We therefore ask the Mayor to publicly condemn this attack on councilor Pedotti and ANPI.”
The note of the Antifascist Committee
We are quite shocked by what happened this morning in Busto Arsizio. A banner appeared on the pedestrian footbridge of the Cinque Ponti suggesting that the councilor of the Democratic Party, Paolo Pedotti, and ANPI should “remember the Foibe and Gulag”. Perhaps Pedotti and ANPI have made some mistakes? About what? Perhaps it was the outburst of some citizen who does not feel represented? To us, to tell the truth, it seems like another provocation, even if this time not signed. Pedotti, in the city council, had accused Antonelli and the right-wing majority of not distancing themselves from former councilor Lattuada who, on the Day of Remembrance, had posted a photo on his Facebook page in which he made the Roman salute. Antonelli’s response, perhaps forgetting his institutional role, was to “not be Lattuada’s caretaker”. The response, if it can be called that, seems absolutely senseless to us. Pedotti was then invited by the mayor himself to stop seeing fascism where there is none. We believe that instead he saw it well. We therefore feel obliged to express our closeness and solidarity with Pedotti and ANPI for this kind of provocation. Pedotti’s request, in an institutional setting such as the city council, to distance himself from the questionable behavior of Lattuada, cannot give rise to such a reaction! No denialist position has been expressed by councilor Pedotti and even less by ANPI. We therefore ask the Mayor to publicly condemn this attack on councilor Pedotti and ANPI. We find this banner absolutely unworthy, rejecting it as a cowardly anonymous sender, even if we give it a precise attribute: fascist.
