SARONNO – “The atmospheric events of these last few days, never before seen in the memory of the people of Saronno, have caused a lot of concern in the city and in the surrounding areas, which have also been severely affected. The damage suffered is truly immense and many are worried about not having the capacity to deal with it.” This is how the political secretariat of the Lega begins its note, taking stock of the situation regarding refunds and compensation for the damage caused by the bad weather in the city, with hailstorms on July 21 and 24 and a tornado on July 29.
“The citizens have been able to experience and appreciate all those entities, such as the Fire Department, the Civil Protection and other associations, that have supported the population in this circumstance. However, the concrete and effective presence of the Saronno Municipal Administration has been lacking once again, demonstrating, if there was ever any doubt, that it does not know how to stand by the people of Saronno with concrete and correct actions. In particular, few and imprecise information has been provided regarding the damage to private homes of the people of Saronno: it is good to have an understanding of public buildings, but what about the citizens, owners of severely damaged houses? Who is taking care of them? The Administration has published an email on the Saronno Municipality’s website to which data can be sent, albeit within a very short timeframe. Sending such an email does not guarantee compensation from the Lombardy Region. As competently explained by other municipal administrations in the Saronno area, the Lombardy Region is collecting information from the municipalities regarding the damage suffered by the population in order to take the appropriate institutional steps and ensure effective protection for the citizens. Filling out the form does not guarantee any compensation, so there is no point in giving false hope to the citizens. The extremely short deadlines communicated to the citizens by the Saronno Municipal Administration seem like a mockery, considering which one could obtain compensation. It would have been more appropriate and less alarming to invite the Saronno residents affected by the violent hailstorm to keep evidence of the damage suffered and the costs incurred in order to obtain compensation in due course. The timing and methods for requesting compensation for damages will be provided by the Lombardy Region as soon as the state of emergency is activated by the Government. Once again, the Lega di Saronno expresses its solidarity with all those who have been severely affected by the weather events of the past few days. The courage and determination of the Lombard people have not wavered even on this occasion.
