SARONNO – “The work on the roof of the old cafeteria has already been completed, but it is not possible to use it without extending the serving times. For this reason, the children continue to eat in the classrooms while work on the new cafeteria roof continues, which will be completed during the Christmas holidays.” This is how councilor Francesca Pozzoli provides an update on the ongoing construction site at the Damiano Chiesa elementary school in Cassina Ferrara. In recent days, some parents have reported that children are eating in the classrooms due to the unavailability of the cafeteria since the beginning of the school year.
“We have met with parent representatives and the mayor has also sent a message to families to explain the intervention and the timeline,” explains the councilor. Essentially, the summer hailstorms damaged the roofs of both the old and new cafeterias, as well as the library. “We have replaced the roofs and cleaned and optimized the gutters,” explains the councilor. “As mentioned, the old cafeteria already has the new roof, while work is still ongoing on the new cafeteria. We have also decided to install some slabs and the arrival of materials has extended the timeline. We have also decided to renovate the roof of the central entrance to improve waterproofing and avoid future connection problems. The construction site, which necessarily needs to be carried out when the children are not in school, will be completed during the Christmas holidays so that the institute can resume using the cafeterias in January. There will also be further work in the spring, as the final processing requires higher temperatures.”
