In via Brescia, the construction works for the new feline oasis of the city of Cremona have started, while the situation in via Bissolati is becoming increasingly difficult: after the volunteers of Apac were forced to leave the cloister of the former monastery of San Benedetto, where they have been taking care of the improvised cattery for decades, and were transferred to a series of containers placed in the park of the structure, now it is the dangerously leaning trees that threaten their work.
As stated in a letter sent by the president of Apac, Caterina Severino, to the municipal manager Cinzia Vuoto, responsible for the Organizational Position of the Environmental Service, on October 31st, “the bad weather and the wind have further worsened the already precarious situation of the dangerously leaning trees on both the Scouts’ roof and the containers.”
The association therefore urged “an immediate intervention to prevent damage to things, animals, and people.” However, this report did not receive any practical response, so the situation has been worsening, as highlighted in another email sent a month later, on November 24th, when a volunteer was injured by a branch falling from the unstable tree. The woman had to seek medical treatment at the emergency room. However, even the second letter fell on deaf ears.
But the problems do not end here: among the difficulties encountered by the volunteers are the lack of lighting in the area, the need to extend the roof to protect the feeding points, and the need to remove the debris.
The association and Severino herself are extremely frustrated, to the point that the lawyer Monica Gennari is considering the possibility of filing a complaint to report the situation.
