Valdidentro – “The water pool is on public land, so it is not up to me to issue a diving ban.” This is what the mayor of Valdidentro, Massimiliano Trabucchi, said the day after the accident involving three Moldavian tourists who ventured onto the trail that leads to the “famous” thermal water pool located near the SS 301 of Foscagno between the towns of Molina and Fior d’Alpe, which is very popular, even in winter.

According to reports, two of them slipped into the nearby Adda riverbed, suffering injuries. The third tourist sounded the alarm and rescuers arrived on the scene. A woman reportedly fractured two vertebrae and had to be transported by helicopter to Morelli. The other Moldavian tourist only had a few abrasions. The area around the pool is not new to such accidents, with tourists venturing there even at night.

“The situation in the area is very complex,” explains Trabucchi, “because the concession for the water in the pool belongs to the owners of the Bagni Nuovi, while the pool itself is public land, and the stretch of trail that leads to the pool is under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Valdidentro. In other words, I cannot issue a bathing ban because the pool is public land.” The pool has been frequented for decades. “In recent years, there have also been social media groups promoting it, so there are more and more people. The place itself is not dangerous, but it is clear that if you venture onto a trail, you should at least have some knowledge of it. What happened in the past few days was an accident, not the first one, as accidents happen to those who hike in the mountains. It’s unfortunate, but we cannot prohibit access to the place.”
