SARONNO – “The school spaces that were undergoing extraordinary maintenance due to the damage caused by last summer’s hailstorms are now usable and available to the two reference institutes,” begins the note from the municipal administration regarding the construction sites at Damiano Chiesa and Ignoto Militi.
These are the gymnasium of the Ignoto Militi school and the cafeteria of the Damiano Chiesa school, where the municipal administration has planned repair work that has been ongoing for some time due to their complexity.
“As we have explained several times,” comments the councilor for Public Works, Francesca Pozzoli, “in organizing the restoration work due to the damage caused by the bad weather at the end of July, we prioritized emergencies and the environments strictly necessary for teaching, in order to welcome students to school with the first bell in September. The other works, which were less urgent or could be carried out safely with attending students, were scheduled for a later phase and therefore carried out at a later time. Now, after the inspection, the spaces are returned to the full availability of school managers and staff, teachers, and students.”
The summer bad weather had severely damaged the windows and roof of the Ignoto Militi school gym, causing significant internal leaks. The replacement of the windows, carried out initially, was followed by the roof intervention, with the installation of a waterproofing layer. When the external temperatures allow it, a polyurethane resin layer will be applied to the roof, which will also cover the gutters and the ridges of the nearby cafeteria building. Paintings and other small interior interventions in the gym will also be carried out, without limiting or further reducing the space available to users. During this initial period, the heating system will operate at a reduced capacity, pending the arrival of the ordered air heater, but the environment is already usable.
At the Damiano Chiesa school, the intervention on the roof of the cafeteria-former kitchen and the library-teachers’ room was complex. The water disposal system was revised, and a new waterproofing membrane and new metal sheets were installed, extending to the entrance, in order to guarantee a new and uniform covering and restore the impermeability of the premises, which are now usable. The construction work on the cafeteria-former kitchen is completed (only the library remains to be finished), including the replacement and painting of the ceiling panels. The spaces can be used in the coming days, as soon as the necessary general cleaning operations are completed.
