Scoiattoli: un esemplare raro trovato a Lazzate
Lazzate – “A true rarity for our section, since the red squirrel, the European common squirrel, is an elusive species that greatly prefers the tranquility of coniferous and deciduous forests to the chaos of the city, to which its ‘cousin’ the gray squirrel seems to have perfectly adapted: this specimen comes from Lazzate. Found on Saturday afternoon on a bike path, it was very weak, infested with larvae, and with probable after effects of a convulsive crisis, which is why it was immediately rescued and brought to us, the only recovery center still open to the public at that time.” This is what the volunteers of Enpa Milano, the National Animal Protection Agency, said.
The little squirrel was immediately put under observation and therapy to counteract the wasting and neurological symptoms “but fortunately, after the first days of great uncertainty, it began to show signs of recovery. Here we see it in its wonderful progression from a “rumpled” squirrel to a “starving” squirrel: we take this opportunity to once again emphasize that cow’s milk should never be given to animals; specific milk that is not generally available in traditional channels is needed,” Enpa recaps.
Now it has been transferred to the Cras in Vanzago, where they will take care of it until it is completely weaned, and then give it back its freedom at the right time.
