Roberto Zorzi, 70-year-old man from Verona, will be in front of the Court of Assizes on February 29th. He will be called to defend himself against the accusation of being involved in the massacre of Piazza Loggia on May 28th, 1974.
The massacre of Piazza Loggia occurred when a bomb placed in a trash can in the square exploded. The explosion happened during a rally of the Cisl unionist Franco Castrezzati and the deputy of the Italian Communist Party, Adelio Terraroli. Eight people died and a hundred were injured. After 43 years and 11 trials, the Court of Cassation finally convicted the two ordinaries Carlo Maria Maggi and Maurizio Tramonte in 2017. The first one passed away in 2018. This event is historically significant as it is considered a turning point in the so-called “Strategy of Tension,” which is situated between the bombings of Piazza Fontana in Milan and the massacre at the Bologna train station.
