Mirko Lupo Olcelli, 18-year-old skiing promise, victim of a tragic accident
VALFURVA – “Hello Lupo, I can’t believe it, or rather I don’t want to believe it. I will always remember your support during the races, but above all the beer at the end of the race, like yesterday,” posted Giulia Compagnoni in a story on Instagram, accompanying the text with a blue heart and an image of the snowy mountains.
To remember the blue of ski mountaineering Mirko Lupo Olcelli from Piatta, who died the other morning in an accident in Valfurva, while driving to Bormio with his 16-year-old girlfriend who was injured, but not seriously. The same image of the snowy mountains at sunset for Giulia Murada, who also posted on Instagram: “It seems unfair and senseless.”
Finally, the sports world also joined the family of Mirko: “This morning, in a tragic car accident, a great friend of ours left us. A strong skier from the Alta Valtellina Ski Club, the Central Alps Fisi Committee and the National Team, Mirko Lupo Olcelli was one of us; lover of effort and freedom, histrionic and with overwhelming sympathy – the memory entrusted to his Facebook profile by the Polisportiva Albosaggia -. A strong hug to the family and to all the friends who are close to us in this unspeakable moment. We want to remember you on our mountains where you competed in February – as always – great. We will miss you so much.”
The carabinieri of Tirano are investigating the dynamics of the accident, but there seem to be few doubts: the car driven by Mirko would have skidded on an icy slab before crashing into an off-road vehicle. The funeral will be tomorrow at 2.30 pm in the Parish Church of Piatta, the recitation of the Rosary today at 8 pm in the church of San Pietro. The funeral notices announce the date of the funeral by “the parents, the beloved sister Carolina Selvaggia, the grandparents, your sweet Elisa, the adored cousins, uncles”. “Life – it reads at the top of the death announcements from the Curti agency – is a bit like ski mountaineering, if you make a good track someone will follow it, you have traced it in your heart and it will never be erased.” And the controversies about alleged delays in rescue operations are unfounded.
