The Vice President of the Senate, Gian Marco Centinaio, and the President of the Province of Pavia, Giovanni Palli, met on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 in Stradella, the representatives of the municipal administrations of Voghera, Casteggio, Broni, Stradella, Montebello, Corvino San Quirico, Giuletta, Redavalle and Bosnasco, in order to develop a common position to submit to the Government, with the intention of solving the circulation problems that affect the A21 motorway and also have an impact on the surrounding traffic.
“Forbid overtaking for trucks”
Following the meeting, the two institutional representatives express satisfaction with the discussion: “We must set clear and concrete objectives and only through teamwork can we solve the main traffic problems of the A21 and related road axes. Let’s immediately carry out a decisive intervention aimed at first banning truck overtaking on the motorway route, as has already been done since 2007 on the A22 – Brenner Motorway, without forgetting the need to follow up with infrastructure interventions in the area”.
“Operational meeting”
“It was a very concrete and operational meeting, which allowed us to identify the difficulties to be faced and to propose the first solutions to the government. Involving the mayors was a winning move, because no one knows the traffic problems affecting the A21 and other local arteries better than them. The next step will be to request a meeting with Minister Salvini, with whom I have already opened a dialogue on this issue”, comments the Vice President of the Senate, Gian Marco Centinaio.

“Reduce accidents by half”
“The experience of the A22 – Brenner Motorway tells us, with data in hand, that reducing accidents without slowing down the flow of vehicles and heavy goods through the introduction of a ban on truck overtaking is a concrete and effective option. It is no longer acceptable to have a blockage of the territory like the one we experienced in recent days. The discussion table promoted with the mayors, whom I thank for their availability and proactive work from the start, will allow us to focus on the various issues of traffic, both on the A21 motorway and on the Via Emilia axis, in order to activate an analysis and intervention work in the short, medium and long term”, comments the President of the Province of Pavia, Giovanni Palli.

The meeting comes after a day of turmoil on the A21 motorway following three road accidents involving heavy vehicles.
