SARONNO – “No to chemical toilets in front of our shops!” This is the message in a nutshell from the merchants of central Via Mazzini, who have submitted a petition to the Municipality. The cause for concern is the intervention plan for the redevelopment of the nearby Piazza Libertà, which will take place over the next few months: from the project layout, it emerges that the prefabricated building that will serve as changing rooms for the workers involved in future interventions, and the chemical toilets for the construction site staff will be positioned right at the entrance of Via Mazzini, thus creating a sort of “wall” for anyone wishing to enter the street.
“From a discussion among the retailers of Via Mazzini, great concern has arisen about the economic repercussions that could affect all commercial activities following the opening of the construction site for the renovation works of Piazza Libertà – reads the text attached to the petition – All the signing merchants of the petition strongly request not to place chemical toilets and storage points for equipment and materials useful to the construction site at the entrance of Via Mazzini. The probable economic damage caused to the merchants and the degrading aspect that would be imposed at the entrance of the street are considered unacceptable by the signatories and very serious for Via Mazzini, which already suffers from visibility and accessibility problems.”
The text of the petition continues: “We are certain that the Municipality will seriously consider our request, and we look forward to a response.”
